In the heart of Gerês, Portugal’s only national park, this private house opens onto the pine forests and granite mountains that surround it. The bedroom was conceived as a serene retreat, where raw materiality, an exposed concrete wall, a deep green that echoes the woodland beyond, dark timber floors, meets the comfort of a space made for rest. It is in this setting, between the ruggedness of the landscape and the warmth of the interior, that the Unelma Bedside Tables find their place. The name could not be more fitting for a bedside piece: “unelma” is the Finnish word for dream, and the table inhabits exactly that threshold between waking and rest. Its structure carries Længsel’s unmistakable signature, the rhythmic slats of birch plywood, a play of solids and voids, with the layers of the wood left visible on the top and edges, an honest testament to the material. The drawers, framed in dark tones and dressed in a warm ochre, bring a note of colour that converses with the accents of the bed linen and the art on the walls. Crafted in sustainable birch with non-toxic finishes and raised on a slender black steel base, the Unelma unites form, function and materiality with the quiet elegance that defines the brand. The result is a bedroom where Nordic serenity and the force of the Portuguese landscape come together under the same light, a true retreat for dreaming.
